At CIHR, knowledge translation (KT) is defined as a dynamic and iterative process that includes synthesis, dissemination, exchange and ethically-sound application of knowledge to improve the health of Canadians, provide more effective health services and products and strengthen the health care system.

This process takes place within a complex system of interactions between researchers and knowledge users which may vary in intensity, complexity and level of engagement depending on the nature of the research and the findings as well as the needs of the particular knowledge user.

Statistical Help and Tools

Open Source Epidemiologic Statistics for Public Health

OpenEpi is free and open source software for epidemiologic statistics. OpenEpi provides statistics for counts and measurements in descriptive and analytic studies, stratified analysis with exact confidence limits, matched pair and person-time analysis, sample size and power calculations, random numbers, sensitivity, specificity and other evaluation statistics, R x C tables, chi-square for dose-response, and links to other useful sites. The program can be downloaded from the OpenEpi website.

Statistical Consulting and Research Laboratory (SCARL)

The Statistical Consulting and Research Laboratory (SCARL) at UBC offers statistical consulting for on- or off-campus clients. Services cover the spectrum of statistical design and analysis, as well as ancillary area. Consulting for short term as well as for large projects is available. SCARL website.
